This place is absolutely spooky from the outside and even more from the inside, it has become a hotspot for ghosts and spirits to gather and manifest all kinds of paranormal activities, although it wasn’t always this way.

Dark story in the Waverly Hills Sanatorium

Back in the early 1900s, the Waverly Hills Sanatorium was serving as a hospital center to treat patients with tuberculosis. However, at that time there wasn’t enough knowledge on how to treat it so thousands of patients passed away as a result.

After the epidemic came to an end, the hospital closed in 1961 and a year after, it became a geriatric medical facility. During this time they used to treat elderly patients but once again, due to a lack of trained staff and overflowing with patients, the state of Kentucky had to close it in 1982.

The walls of this hospital kept the suffering of thousands of people for many years, eventually turning into the jail of many ghosts.

Tours in Waverly Hills Sanatorium

Nowadays, the Waverly Hills Historical Society is responsible for maintaining and preserving this facility as part of a historic landmark of Louisville. Rumors easily spread and the Waverly Hills Sanatorium gained popularity fast enough to become a spooky paradise for paranormal fanatics. Timmy The Ghost

One of the most popular ghost stories of the Waverly Hills Sanatorium is the one about young Timmy. He was one of the youngest patients that the sanatorium had, he used to play with other young patients on a swing set that was built within the hospital.

Rumors says he and other children still live in this place, visitors have told that whenever you leave toys such as balls laying around, the playful spirits of these children, including Timmy, will move them around and even make them disappear.

Ohio has one of the most mesmerizing castles ever but believe it or not, it’s haunted!

“The Sweetheart of Ohio” is the nickname that was given to one of the ancient, astonishing architectural pieces from Ohio but you may also know it as the Chateau LaRoche or the Loveland Castle.

The Chateau LaRoche can be found in southern Ohio, along the Little Miami River in the city of Loveland. Without a doubt, one can say that this castle is truly beautiful and charming, but what very little people know is the dark story behind the man who built it.

Harry Delos Andrews, a clever man with many talents until he, unfortunately, caught a infection that removed lives of 7000 people back in the 1890s. When studying his body in the morgue which had been lying there for two days, doctors found something unusual. When trying to collect bacterial samples from his mouth, Andrew’s body began to bleed and doctors decided to inject his heart with some adrenaline, and Harry Andrews was back from death.

The possibilities for him to go on with life were almost non-existent, he was blind and paralyzed. However, he challenged the laws of medicine, being able to recuperate and go on with his life. After the unexpected incident, Andrews settled as a medic at the Château LaRoche, in France, where he began to develop an affinity for knights and the medieval world to the point where he formed a group of young men called the Knights of the Golden Trail.

All young men who decided to join this group were connected by an oath, which was to restore the nobility and civility into modern society, the same way that past knights from medieval times used to do. Sir Harry, was so committed to the Knights of the Golden Trail, that he felt the need to build a castle for them, and so it began.

During the late 1920s, he acquired a piece of land and began to work on what years later would become the Château LaRoche in Ohio. For over 20 years he committed to the construction of this castle, Andrews used to carry stones from the Little Miami almost every day with a vision to create a magnificent castle.

But then, what’s so dark about all of this? Sir Harry believed that this castle was heavily haunted by several spirits… One of them, a knight who was deeply attached to one of the medieval artifacts displayed in the Château LaRoche and this ghost would come at night from time to time.

Also, a paranormal presence that Andrews used to call “Casper Poltergeist” was responsible for slamming doors, moving objects and if it was troubled by people it would even strike them with an electric jolt sensation.

Andrews also mentioned the ghosts of two children who passed away in the property before he became the owner, so not even the castle is haunted but also some of the surroundings. Some fanatics of paranormal phenomenons were attracted to this area, trying to communicate with these spirits they confirmed that the ghosts of a 13-year-old boy and his 7-year-old sister, were still around.

Despite it all, we gave to admit that the Château LaRoche is an amazing looking castle filled with history… What do you think? do you believe it is actually haunted?

You will never believe all the work it took to create the spooky monsters from Silent Hill

The Silent Hill universe is without a doubt one of the most creepy, terrifying and eerie worlds ever to exist. The creatures that can be found in the darkest areas of this universe are the vivid representation of our deepest fears and even though it’s quite unsettling to look at them, we can not argue that the creativity implied to create such monsters, is pure art.

But a question that might’ve never popped into our minds is, how were these horrific creatures created?

Giving life to these monsters was no easy task. Christophe Gans, the director of the Silent Hill movie, had a clear idea of how he wanted each of the creatures to look, move and behave. His mantra for making each monster was “Disturbing, but not disgusting” and he kept on reminding this to everyone involved in the making of the movie.

Patrick Tatopoulos was the man in charge of the creatures effects meanwhile Paul Jones was the man behind the make-up effects. With a mixture of reality and nightmares, these monsters came to life, even though they were supposed to be fictional characters Tatopoulos and Jones always tried to add certain “human” aspects to it, making the creatures way more disturbing.

Michael Cota was entitled to become the “Armless Man”. He had to wear a two-piece costume: a pair of skin-tight silicon legs and some sort of plastic foam rib cage. It was designed to be a costume that covers the whole body, it comes with a mouthpiece that has a tube attached to it, where Cota was able to breathe through.

Another challenging monster to create was the Grey Child. The idea was to have the skin of the creature sliding backwards, without deforming the skull and jaw of the monster. The costume was made of foam latex and it was a whole bodysuit along with some plastic hands and a head… the whole process of preparation took them two and a half hours to make. The lucky one to wear this every day was Yvonne NG and even though she must scream to be heard from the inside of the suit, she describes the whole work as absolutely beautiful.

Some of the most popular monsters and definitely most iconic within the Silent Hill universe are the Nurses. For the movie, Tatopoulos thought of staying true to the original design from the game and make a couple of masks that had a small mouth opening which could be modified later on with CGI. Meanwhile, Jones created twenty latex nurse costumes made with zip ties and velcro in order for them to stay extremely tight to the body. These dancers had to train a choreography every day, keeping their movements synchronized and also, very creepy.

Radha Mitcher who plays the lead character, Rose Da Silva, mentions that her favorite monsters ever appear in this movie. Something she likes about these monsters is that they are bizarre and creepy and they look like they come out of some sadomasochists handbook. She also mentions that her all-time favorite monster from Silent Hill was the Armless Man, played by Michael Cota.

The building itself has been around approximately since the 1700s, but as years passed by it became a popular bar with a unique atmosphere takes you back in time and doors are opened not only to humans but also to other spirits.

The Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar remains one of the antique surviving structures from New Orleans, due to its warm vibe, this bar is graced by thousands of customers and it is even rumored that many of them still visit the place, in the form of ghosts.

With a somewhat ghostly atmosphere, this bar sets the perfect mood for telling spooky stories and grabbing a good drink. So what makes this bar so mysterious? It has to be its background story.

Almost 300 years back, this building was inhabited by the Lafitte brothers: Jean a French pirate and privateer, and Pierre a privateer from the 19th-century although this building was not a bar back then at all, but something darker.

Some clients said they’ve seen Jean Lafitte standing on one of the corners of his beloved building, staring silently at the people back in the shadows, but be careful if he catches you glimpsing at him… he will disappear.

Even though the spirits of the Lafitte brothers have the right to hang around their place, this bar is known for attracting more than these two ghosts.

Some of the stories that are told around say that the fireplace from this bar is a specific spot where all kinds of paranormal phenomenons happen. Paranormal investigators presume that this area is home of a demonic spirit and some clients even believe they have seen a pair of red eyes staring at them, right from the fireplace.

Do you have the guts to visit the Lafitte Brothers? maybe you will be lucky enough to catch one of them, standing on a shadowy corner.

The Haunting of Hill House will be back and the filming of season 2 is over

The Haunting of Hill House left the audience with a great appetite for more mystery, drama and suspense. After ten exciting episodes, the creator Mike Flanagan decided to give fans another taste of horror by introducing a new story.

The second season will be called “The Haunting of Bly Manor” in which the story will not only incorporate new actors such as the talented Rahul Kohli, T’Nia Miller, Amelia Eve and Benjamin Ainsworth but also maintain part of the original cast like Catherine Parker, Victoria Pedretti, and Henry Thomas among others.

The Haunting of Bly Manor was filmed in Vancouver. they finished this month, in February. However, Netflix will not release the terrifying part two right now, the public will probably enjoy it during the Halloween season.

Flanagan has done tremendous work with The Haunting of Hill House, this psychological thriller had everything a horror enthusiast could ask for from storyline all the way to aesthetics, no wonder why people have high expectations for the upcoming season but… what will be the new storyline?

The last episode of season one brings an end to the Crain family story. What follows up is a new fresh story where another family will be haunted in a completely new, frightening house.

“It’s a cool way to expand on some of the things I loved about season 1, but within the framework of a new story, without having to be restrained by the decisions we made last time.” Flanagan

Although there is no actual narrative connection between both seasons, what brings these two together are the small easter eggs in the moments of dialogue and in some of the ideas retrieved from Hill House. No matter how small the easter eggs might seem, they are guaranteed to trigger an emotion rush when you finally make a connection with the story.

Officially The Haunting of Bly Manor is based on Henry Jame’s 1898 gothic horror novel “The Turn of the Scre”which has been previously adapted to the big screen in 1961 as a film called “The Innocents”.

Flanagan shows plenty of enthusiasm for this new season saying “It’s such a treat to play in the world of Henry James” the creator along with the whole crew will unravel Henry Jame’s library of ghosts, introducing to the media world things that have never been seen before.
