Volume 2 Of Unsolved Mysteries Season 1 Is Coming To Netflix Next Month

From UFOs, ghosts, to true unresolved crimes, Netflix revived the mystery documentary television show, created by John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer, Unsolved Mysteries. The reboot premiered on July 1, 2020.

Since its release, the series received a great acceptance in multiple countries including the United States, Australia, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

In August, Netflix confirmed via Twitter a ‘Volume 2’, featuring six more episodes which are part of Season 1 in a small font near the center of the image, marking October 19 as the official release date.

After the show’s creators expressed interest in reviving the series, Meurer mentioned that releasing the show on Netflix was the best decision due to the global audience that the platform comes along with.

We had meetings with networks along the way but nothing felt like the right fit,” he said said in an interview with the New York Post.Netflix is the perfect place—we can produce international stories and can also reach out to a worldwide audience to try and solve mysteries in different countries.”

The show used to have a narrator/host for every story. This time, it was decided to not have one for the reboot and instead opting to go with a more traditional documentary format.  This was mainly due to Robert Stack, the host most attributed with the original series. “We decided it was really tough to fill Robert Stack’s shoes,” Meurer told the Post. “He was an iconic host for so many years.”

Another reason for this decision was that they were looking for the people involved in these episodes to be more present. “We wanted this be in the documentary world, where the people whose mysteries these episodes involve are more present and more of the storytellers,” he said. “In addition to interviewing family members and law enforcement, we go on location to get more of a sense of each case. We don’t try to come down on one point of view and try to create as balanced a story as we can.”

While a second season hasn’t been confirmed, the show was around the top 10 list around the world and stayed in #1 for many weeks so we can definitely expect a new season coming into the streaming platform sometime in the future . As for now, we can enjoy six intriguing new episodes coming in October 19.

Netflix Revealed First Trailer And Release Date For The Haunting Of Bly Manor

“The Haunting of Hill House” directed by Mike Flanagan debuted on Netflix back in 2018 and turned into one of the greatest horror series that made possible to work in a new season for the streaming platform, The Haunting of Bly Manor” which has now an official trailer and release date.

The most anticipated sequel will be based on the 1898 horror novella The Turn of the Screw” by Henry James as the ‘backbone’ of this season.

“The Turn of the Screw” tells the story of a governess in charge of two children that have experienced a traumatic situation as their former governess died under strange circumstances. While the plot remains a mystery yet, we can expect something very close to the book mixed with elements of other stories from the same author such The Jolly Corner” and “The Romance of Certain Old Clothes” as Flanagan confirmed earlier.

‘Bly Manor’ is expected to be scarier than Hill House. Flanagan told Birth.Movies.Death, “We’re looking at all the ghost stories of Henry James as the jumping-off point for the season, so it very much is a whole new deal. It’s a cool way to expand on some of the things I loved about Season 1, but within the framework of a new story, without having to be restrained by the decisions we made last time. For Henry James fans, it’s going to be pretty wild, and for people who aren’t familiar with his work, it’s going to be unbelievably scary. I already think it’s much scarier than Season 1, so I’m very excited about it.

The series will feature the return of several actors from the previous season even though, they will be playing different roles while Rahul Kohli, T’Nia Miller, Amelia Eve, and young actors Amelie Smith and Benjamin Ainsworth have been added to the cast as new characters.

Flanagan confirmed before that the filming for ‘Bly Manor’ was able to be completed before all productions were pushed back due to the pandemic so it was definitely expected to be release this year and now we have an official date for the series which promises to be as frightening and smart as “The Haunting of Hill House”.

“The Haunting of Bly Manor” will hit Netflix on October 9th. Watch the first trailer for the horror series in the video below.

New Horror Series Inspired On H.P. Lovecraft’s Legacy Just Debuted

A few days ago, a new drama horror television series premiered on HBO. It has all the right elements to get into a gloomy atmosphere of the 50s. The series is inspired on famous horror writer H. P. Lovecraft.

The series titled “Lovecraft Country”, was developed by Misha Green (“Sons of Anarchy”). It counted with Jordan Peele (“Get Out”) and J.J Abrams (“Lost”) as the producers and it’s based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Matt Ruff.

The story is about a young black man named Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) who travels with his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) and childhood friend Letitia “Leti” Lewis (Jurnee Smollett) across the segregated 1950s United States in search of his missing father Montrose (Michael K. Williams), who has gone missing. They go looking for him while also learning of dark secrets plaguing a whole town, in which famous writer Lovecraft supposedly based the location of many of his fictional tales.

It may only debuted, but the 10-episode series is already a huge success. The audience’s response was favorable. Just in Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds an approval rating of 97% based on 58 reviews and 81% in average audience score.

In addition, it became a topic of conversation on social media due to the fiction being mixed with real and important topics that we still live up until today. Audience can see through the racism combined with the fantastical creatures and monsters.

Critics have also praised the production as impressive thanks to the contrast between the monsters, the fictional terror and also the constant fear from daily life. It’s expected that the next episodes can bring into even more audience.

Like many other HBO series,Lovecraft Country” premieres one episode a week, lengthening the mystery and tension but hooking horror fans since the beginning and leaving them wanting for more.

The legacy: weird fiction

Not many may be familiar to H. P. Lovecraft’s works, but he transformed horror genre at his time and managed to mark popular culture, cinema, literature and many other things. So it is logical that a team led by Peele, Green and Abrams, ended up giving HBO a great work of success.

While Lovecraft left a legacy and was the pioneer for the “weird fiction”(which either avoids or reinterprets ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and other traditional antagonists of supernatural horror fiction), his racist, xenophobic and antisemitic views cannot be denied.

That’s why that on the series, the fantasy and horror are well-played, but there’s also a better understanding of Lovecraft’s works and even further than that.

So all the elements are already in place to enjoy “Lovecraft Country” through HBO, so we must not lose sight of this series that promises to be, as impressive to read between the lines, as visually surprising.
