Disney movies that have horrifying origin stories

Disney became famous by taking original fairy tales and turning them into wonderful and animated movies with just the right amount of magic, romance and exciting events. In many cases, the Disney version became so popular that nobody remembers the original story.

But it turns out that there is a good reason why many of these stories are lost in memory, they are crazy!

Cinderella

In the original story:

When the prince arrives at Cinderella’s house, the stepmother orders her two daughters to cut off their toes and put on the shoes so they can fit them and so one of them will marry the prince. But her plan didn´t work, Cinderella and the prince are having a happy ending. To make matters worse, during the wedding, some pigeons end up pecking at the eyes of the stepsisters and they end very badly …

Sleeping Beauty

In the original story:

Aurora doesn´t wake up with a sweet kiss, she wake up with the birth of her twins. Since the prince leaves her pregnant while she slept and then leaves her alone because he was married to someone else. When Aurora and her children arrive at the palace, the angry prince’s wife tries to get rid of them, but the king stops her and allows Aurora to marry the man who got her pregnant without her consent.

Beauty and the Beast

In the original story:

Bella convinces the Beast to let her visit her sisters for a week. The sisters seeing Bella covered in precious jewels and finding out about the luxurious life she had, the sisters convince Bella to stay longer with them, with the terrible intention that her delay would drive the Beast mad, causing him to devour her.

Snow White

In the original story:

In the original story of the Grimm brothers, the witch doesn´t die under the rock. Her punishment for trying to end the life of Snow White is dancing in heated iron shoes until she passes out and ends her life.

The little Mermaid

In the original story:

The small print on the contract is that Ariel’s legs will hurt all the time, as if she were walking on knives. As pain and seduction don´t mix, in the end the prince marries another woman and Ariel throws herself into the ocean, where she becomes sea foam.

Pocahontas

In the original story:

Matoaka, better known as Pocahontas, was the daughter of Chief Powhatan, in the territory now known as Virginia. The natives deprived John Smith of his freedom to exchange him for hostages of their same race that the colonists held, but Chief Powhatan was about to take John’s life, after the colonists refused to deal, Pocahontas saved John’s life. That was the only relationship they had. Finally Pocahontas was taken and held for the rescue of John. She lost her life at age 22 due to unknown causes.

Hercules

In the original story:

Hercules was a savage, and it is not enough to explain the extent of his crimes, but let’s talk about Megara. Megara was the daughter of the king of Thebes, and Hercules took her in marriage almost by force. They had two children and lived happily ever after, until Hera, the wife of Zeus, drove Hercules mad and eliminated Megara and the children. Tormented by guilt, Hercules still completed the same 12 tasks as in the film, but with extreme violence and contempt for life.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame

In the original story:

Quasimodo can´t save Esmeralda, in fact, he, unknowingly, delivers her to the authorities and watches her while they hang her. Then Quasimodo goes to her grave, where he stays until he loses his life due to hunger. Years later, when someone opens the grave, finds their two skeletons together, but when he tries to separate them, they turn to dust.

Pinocchio

In the original story:

Pinocchio is a bad boy. Since his birth, he behaves badly, steals things, and even his father calls him a “demon child.” One day, as a result of his actions, a cat and a fox hang him from a willow tree and watch him while lifelessly he sways in the wind.

Mulan

In the original story:

In Hua Mulan poem, China loses war. The enemy allows Mulan to live on the condition that she lives with him, but Mulan manages to escape from there. When she arrives at her house, she discovers that her father is no longer alive and her mother had remarried. Then she says: “I am a woman, I survived the war and I have done enough. Now I want to be with my father.” causing the end of her life.
