‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Is Having A New Series On Amazon

The famous scary film franchise is coming back with a series adaptation on Amazon Prime. Plans to develop the series was first reported last year and will work as a modern take on the hit 1997 horror film.

The film was based on the 1973 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan that tells the story of a group of teenagers find themselves being stalked by a mysterious figure with a hook, one year after a fatal accident on their graduation night.

It starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe and Freddie Prinze Jr. and grossed $125 million worldwide.

THR reported that the new show will share a premise with the movie, but with a modern spin on the material.

Gossip Girl‘s Sara Goodman will be the one writing and executive producing the new series, which comes from Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures TV.

“The best horror franchises always have another scare coming, and this ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ series from Sara Goodman is a perfectly twisted update to the iconic slasher movie,” said Albert Cheng, COO and co-head of television for Amazon Studios. “Any way you slice it, our global Prime Video customers will love this modern take on the fan favorite film.”

Along with Goodman, executive producers are Shay Hatten, Original Film’s Moritz and Pavun Shetty, Erik Feig and Atomic Monster’s James Wan, Rob Hackett and Michael Clear.

“We are thrilled to have ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ with our incredible partners at Amazon Studios,” said Jason Clodfelter, co-president of Sony Pictures Television Studios. “Neal Moritz and Original Films’ development consistently fires on all cylinders and that is proven once again with Sara Goodman’s contemporary and pulsating character weaving suspense thriller.”
