Roxette singer Marie Fredriksson passes away

Marie Fredriksson, singer of the legendary Swedish group Roxette, passed away on Monday, December 9 at age 61.

The singer, songwriter and leader of the Roxette band, passed away, after a prolonged battle against cancer, as confirmed by the group’s press officer, Marie Dimberg.

“With great sadness we must announce that one of our greatest and dearest artists has passed away. Marie Fredriksson died on the morning of December 9,” Dimberg wrote in a release.

Her lost has taken place a few months after the publication of an autobiography in which she comments on the most difficult aspects of fame, certain experiences of her childhood and, above all, the fight against the disease.

The cancer of the singer was detected in September 2001, at a time that Fredriksson herself described in her book as the beginning of a “hell.”

Since the beginning, the Roxette duo became a reference for pop worldwide, becoming one of the most relevant and successful Swedish groups since ABBA. Together with the composer and singer Per Gessle, Fredriksson maintained a prolific career that lasted until 2015, and left for the story such popular hits as ‘It must have been love’, ‘The look’ or ‘Listen to your heart’ .

“Time goes by so fast. Not so long ago we spent days and nights in my little apartment sharing impossible dreams. And what a dream we came to share! I am honored to have known your talent and generosity. All my love goes to you and you family. Things will never be the same, “Gessle wrote on his Twitter account.
